Worse phone ever March 12, 2013

Reviewer:  Michelle Chevalier-zeigler "MR Chevalier-Zeigler"  (Conway, SC) -

This phone barely holds a charge. Battery lasts 3-4 hours without use! I've had it for one year now and am so frustrated with it. Now it will not charge properly. The car charger no longer works. I have 3 chargers for it. The phone shuts off by itself all the time. I would never recommend this phone to anyone.

Amaze 4G March 11, 2013

Reviewer:  Mr.Batman

T-Mobile has deemed this phone End of Life.
HTC refuses to support the device, fix outstanding bugs, or support open-source upgrades.
This phone will NOT get Jellybean even though it has 1GB of ram.

Rooting/Upgrading the phone has issues with volume, loading sd cards, bluetooth audio, etc.
Stock operating system has issues with blue tooth, dropping service, business features do not work such as VPN, etc.

Overall, I am very disappointed, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

Worst Phone Ever. February 12, 2013

Reviewer:  C. Lema

Seriously, invest your hard earned money on another phone. My phone has occasional random shut-downs where it would turn off without warning. And it is not just MY phone. I know of two other HTC Amazes that have the same issue. When the phone actually remains on, the screen goes black, and, I would have to lock then unlock the phone for the screen to reappear again. This occurs numerous times. I am a college student so for now i have to bear with this mess :(

Waste of Money January 30, 2013

Reviewer:  Garrett Bess  (Orlando, FL USA) -

The HTC Amaze 4G has great features and a nice design. Mine worked well for approximately three months. It no longer connects to wi-fi, and the screen freezes forcing me to power down. Recently, it has not been allowing me to power down in the normal fashion, instead requiring the battery to be pulled out of the device.

Do not get it. It is a waste of money.

Wonderful with a few livable setbacks December 28, 2012

Reviewer:  Dylan W.

I love this phone. I've had it for about five months now. It has an incredible camera, great slick feel, etc. For the amount you'd be paying for it you expect all these wonderful things, so I'll just tell you about the little setbacks:

1. Though you can't really expect any technology to have a battery life of a week, after a few months the phone starts to lose its original battery life. At first it would last me for about 8-9 hours. Now it lasts about 4-5. And to make it last that much you have to be conscious of the back light and its volume setting. Naturally (like with any technology) expect to carry around your charger.

2. Charger is not the best. Had to get another one (very cheap) after two months.

3. Sometimes it shuts off on its own; it's very strange. And it will seem difficult to turn it back on. It just shuts off on its own. It's not really a big problem. Happens a few times a month.

4. Compared to other phones it's ... heavy. If you've dealt with the new Samsung Galaxy or iPhone 5, they will feel like toys compared to this. I personally like the weight and I don't so much care for the toy paper feel.

It's a great phone. I got this phone for free from tmobile as an upgrade but I would never go out of my way to pay 600$ for it. There is literally nothing more dumb I could think of than spending so much money on a phone. But you're not here to hear that.

It's a great phone. Get it.

Honest review of the HTC Amaze 4G December 28, 2012

Reviewer:  Lisa Traverso "tripleSps3"  (Plainfeild, IL USA) -

I purchased the HTC Amaze 4G back on May of this year, and was satisfied immensely... at first.

When I first purchased and used the phone, I was very pleasantly surprised by the ease of use, the fantastic camera and functionality, and everything that solid Android Phones generally do. However, after a month of use, the problems came in fast.

To start, often times, the performance would become slower with each use. This generally isn't abnormal for some smartphones, but it was especially noticeable on the HTC Amaze. Second of all, eventually, the phone started to shut off on me for no apparent reason. It would do this nearly a dozen times a day, and every time it did, it would mess with the battery life.

For some reason, the battery life also seemed to become increasingly lower as I used the phone more. Not to mention, the focus features of the camera started to become buggy and flawed.

My first Amaze was stolen, and so I was able to get another through my contract, and the exact same thing happened. Solid performance the first month, became worse throughout the second month. Shut offs eventually went up to almost two dozen a day (they could sometimes range from none to a ton), and then even more performance issues hit.

Messaging, to say the least, became heavily flawed. At points, the touch screen response became heavily flawed. I would be pressing a key on the screen and it would press another. I would then lock and unlock the phone and it would work, but it occurred several times. Not to mention, eventually the messaging became such an issue that it would just stay on the loading screen of a message and never load it.

Then, the internet. 4G is almost always slower than most phones after the first month, the wi-fi is heavily flawed as well, and apps frequently shut down on me.

And, the silliest thing of all, the phone eventually wouldn't open up my gallery, which was saved RIGHT ON MY PHONE!

The HTC Amaze 4G had some good things, but the performance issues make the phone impossible to enjoy. I would recommend any other high functioning Android over this.

Great Phone Except For One Serious Drawback June 16, 2012

Reviewer:  C. Paris  (Tucson, AZ) -

First of all, this phone is vastly superior to my old HDC HD2. I love having a 4G phone and sometimes I get as much as 10mbps with my data using the phone and using it as a Wifi Hotspot. It was easy to setup, easy to use and lots of great apps.

There is something that everyone who is thinking about buying this phone needs to know. The Amaze 4G has a proprietary USB connection called ExtMicro that is larger than the standard Micro USB connection. This is not well publicized and in fact, online websites don't often mention it. A standard Micro USB cord will fit, but it fits losely and affects its ability to charge as a minor bump of the phone or cord will cause a disconnection of power.

Getting additional ExtMicro USB cables or a charger is not easy. They don't even offer them on T-Mobile's website when I checked last month and this was 8 months after it's release. Basically, the only place to get these cables is on eBay.

I might have given this phone 5 stars if it wasn't for the USB issue but not being able to using any of my previous cords or charges is a big issue and not being able to buy additional cords and a charger is even more of an issue.

Awesome phone February 11, 2012

Reviewer:  Genn  (Orlando, FL) -

This is by far one of the best phones i have ever owned! I have always had blackberries and iphones, so i am used to high tech phones, and this phone has such a fast processor, doesnt freeze at all, it has a sleek design, i love it! The size is just perfect, not too big not too small, and its screen is big and bright. The best camera a phone has had, it has hd 1080 camera, so i no longer need a separate hd camera, this phone is all in other. Given the fact that has so many features, the battery gets drain in no time, and that is the only complain i have, so i always carry a charger with me, but other than that it's the perfect phone for anyone that is updated with todays technology. With this phone no need for an iPhone at all.

Just upgraded January 11, 2012

Reviewer:  Hershey

Just upgraded from a Mytouch Slide 3G to this. This phone is AMAZING. You can play facebook games on here due to the Adobe flash being installed. You won't be disappointed. Much better than the new iPhone's on the market. Plus it has a LOT of internal space for all your favorite apps. If you want more space just get an SD card (sold separately) and then you'll have twice as much space.

The most Awesome Cell Phone I ever Owned! May 13, 2012

Reviewer:  elvis3

When I purchased this phone, I had done a lot of research. Based on my studies this phone was by far the most full featured cell I could find. Now, I have owned no less than 30 cell phones in my life and let me tell you one thing for sure..... this is by far the best.

Every good thing anybody ever said was true! This phone rules in every way. My last cell phone was the newest I-phone at the price of $700.00 and you could not pay me to switch back
to the I-Phone. This phone makes the I-Phone, feel and act like a toy.

The only con I I have at all is the speaker volume even turned up all the way needs to be a bit louder but I corrected that by downloading a free app called volume blaster, which took care of that problem.

If you really want to buy the very, very best phone you have ever owned. Purchase the HTC Amaze!

Great elegant phone July 19, 2012

Reviewer:  Simsio1 "hse7"  (NJ United States) -

To be honest I won't go on the details on this phone, there are really great reviews about this one but I'm doing this to provide the 5 starts this phone deserves, if I look for perfection I won't find the right cell... just like a car.
This is a really nice mobil and the software is great, the look and feel is like a Lexus, the screen size is good but my choice will be at least a 4.5+ it helps with movies and mostly the reading, anyway great phone and now T-mobile has this phone even for free with a new line.

Simply the best phone for T-Mobile April 15, 2012

Reviewer:  Jeff

This phone is superb, I currently own the White version, I sold my Sensation 4G for the Amaze 4G and I am extremely satisfied...the performance is smoother and the build quality is beyond your standard smartphone. If you take the myTouch 4G slide camera, combine this with the build quality and slim form factor of the sensation, and you improve on this mix with a faster CPU and more RAM, you get the Amaze 4G, definitely the best phone on T-Mobile...i highly recommend this to friends and family and to you

Great HTC Phone, Android is getting awesome combined with HTC April 11, 2012

Reviewer:  R. ZUNIGA

When I first had this phone I liked but after 2 months of use it I can say it's Amazing. It's fast, great screen size. HTC Sense is awesome. Most apps are free in android market.
If you can configure it correctly the baterry isn't that bad. Even so, carry on a charger for a car or in your office. Actually, it can be charged with a chrager for BB Torch or Bold.
Faster than Iphone 4s and has great 8 MP camera in.
I tell ya. HTC is blazing with this kind of phones.

Now, I strongly reccomend to get a rubber case because is kind of easy to slip down your fingers.

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!!! December 14, 2012

Reviewer:  DragynFyre "DragynFyre"  (USA) -

This is my first Android phone and it is a piece of garbage. The battery life is laughable at best. HALF the features on the phone will not work. You try to edit, let's say the weather app, and all it does it crash back to the main app screen.
You troubleshoot and delete it and reload it and it still does not work correctly.
You can't attach ANYTHING to your messages or email from those apps, as the phone will just 'crash' back to your message or email and NOT attach anything. You have to open your files or pics FIRST and then choose to send ONE at a time in a long ardous process. Much like a DUMB phone!!
Try to use the android beam? Don't Bother. Oh it makes a noise and vibrates when you think you are sending something, but the receiving device never gets it.

Lastly - the touch screen is garbage. I have had this phoen for three months, have a protective case, clean it with a dry felt material and the right hand side (about half the width of your finger) no longer works at all.

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!!! DO not believe what these others are saying about a great phone, because I know two other people with this device and have the same problems. The only thing that will 'amaze' you about HTC is that they are still in business with their garbage devices!!!!

Will never buy the Android phone again! March 26, 2012

Reviewer:  Haiping Tu "cash machine"  (Los Angeles, CA) -

I have owned the HTC Amaze phone for 4 month now, because it is designed and made in Taiwan (where I was from ). The phone itself is not too bad, color is nice, most of the functions are working ok, it freezes in average once or twice a day. The battery power is terrible, its because of the Android nature. There are so many processes constantly running all the time, non of them I really need, for example: facebook, visual voicemail, wifi manager, my account, slacker, T-mobile video chat, Settings, and so on, but it not under my control, it came with the Android system. I have to install some kind of task killer to kill those processes often to save the battery power, and I am not a computer person, I just want to use it as phone and internet access, watch youtube, check stock and so on, this will be my last Android phone. WIll try iphone next time.

Crap January 26, 2012

Reviewer:  Tiffany Stewart

***UPDATE***

Since buying this phone in December 2011 I have had it replaced four times. The problems are all internal problems with the phone, it resets itself, turns itself off, has difficulty making phone calls. It's ability to connect to anything has worsened in the short time I've had it. While I've been replacing it, TMobile refuses to just give me something different, instead they insist the problem with phone won't continue with my fourth replacement, but it does. I'm off to get phone number five. Do not buy this piece of crap. My husband bought a Samsung Galaxy S2, buy that instead. I wish I would have.

I don't know if it's just my phone or if others have been experiencing this problem but my phone which I bought last month continuously restarts itself, resetting any personal settings. It gives the option to tell HTC and I do every time but nothing has changed. Also, the internet freezes frequently, the Facebook app force closes almost every time I use it. I would not recommend this phone, go for the Galaxy S II my husband has that and I plan on switching to that.

A great phone but with some slightly misleading advertising. October 27, 2011

Reviewer:  gravman  (California) -

HTC advertises 16GB of on-board storage for the new Amaze 4g. Partly based on this fantastic amount of storage, I shelled out $260 to get one. Lo and behold when I get it home and start messing around with it, I notice there are only 9.74GB. That's a whole lot less than 16. I think to myself "there must be a whole ton of apps installed on here or something to be taking up that much space!" But there's not, there's only 200 or so MB of apps installed. So I connected the phone to my PC and the HTC Storage drive is only 9.75GB total capacity. Where the heck did those other 6.25GB go?? So I contacted HTC and I heard back from Dayton, who had this to say:

"We certainly understand wanting to make the most of the memory on your HTC Amaze 4G. The space listed on the box and in advertisements is the total storage capacity of the phone, and in fact does exist in the phone. The majority of the space is being used to make sure your phone is running at optimal performance levels and therefore not available to access. If you require more space, you can use a MicroSD Card to add media and other files."

I responded asking if someone who bought a phone with only 4GB of on-board storage would see none of it and in fact owe HTC 3GB back. To that I got this response:

"Thank you for your response. The amount of allotted of memory will vary depending on the specifications of the phone itself. We apologize for the inconvenience and will document your concerns. However, we have no more information then what has already been provided."

So basically they are admitting that they lied to us and also saying "Deal with it and stop bothering us." One of the selling points for me was the fact that this phone came with such a phenomenal amount of on-board storage. Now I find out what I get to use is only 75% of what was advertised. I've been bamboozled. I feel like I've been lied to and have fallen victim to false advertising. Every person in my office whom I have spoken with report that they do indeed see the advertised storage of their smart phone, not 25% less. I worked hard for the $260 I had to shell out for this thing, I darn well better be getting the storage that I paid for. Not cool, HTC, not cool at all. I'm going to find out of the Samsung Galaxy SII sees its entire advertised 16GB and if so, the Amaze may very well be going back. Too bad, too, cuz it's a nice phone.

**Edit**
After some discussion with some smart phone users who are more knowledgeable about them than I am, it turns out I was (somewhat) wrong about the 16GB issue - they advertise 16GB ROM, not 16GB of storage. I still think the advertising is misleading, but I've upgraded my review to 4 stars, minus one star for the horrible battery life. Even with mild use, you'll be charging it every night.
