Best Basic Phone I've Used
December 29, 2009
Reviewer: Troy K. (Anaheim, CA) -
I am a cell-phone addict. I change my phone about every couple of months and have used everything from prehistoric Nokias to iPhones and now to my current phone, the Motorola Droid. However, the Samsung Smooth has been my most reliable and longest-used cellphone in about seven years. It is very simple to use, constructed to be extremely durable (I've dropped it many, many times), and has more features than you'd expect in an entry-level phone. It's lightweight and small dimensions makes it unobtrusive in the tightest of jean pockets. One feature that many don't know about is that you can read incoming text messages on the external display without having to open your phone. If you are looking for an inexpensive phone that can take care of your basic needs (calls, SMS, MMS) then you can't go wrong with the Smooth.
Good phone but needs stiffer side buttons

This phone was the "free" upgrade from Verizon so I can't complain too much.
Pros: Good battery life, good reception and sound quality.
Con: This is a big one for me. The side buttons actuate if you just breath on them. Unless you pull the phone out of the case with the tips of your fingers to answer a call, you almost always press the button that mutes the ringer.
Definitely not smooth!

This phone is slippery, hard to open, side buttons get in the way, signal strength is weak (1-2 bars indoors) and reception has a tendency to skip and breakup alot (choppy).
I AM HAPPY

I purchased this Samsung to replace my aging Razr. The first one I got had battery problems (heated up), returned it and got another. It is really cool, small and with excellent features. Two things, it is slippery to hold and not easy to open. These do in no way outweigh its many pluses, but wanted to give an objective review. Well worth the price or upgrade.
GREAT CELL PHONE FOR SIMPLE USE

RESEARCHED ENOUGH VERIZON CAPABLE CELL PHONE BEFORE CHOOSING THIS ONE. IT IS CUTE AND HAS GREAT BATTERY LIFE. ONLY NEEDS CHARGING EVERY 2 TO 3 DAYS IF NOT USED MUCH. BEING OVER 5O I DON'T TEXT OR DO A LOT OF OTHER ADVANCED USE. CAMERA MAKES VERY GOOD CLEAR PHOTOS. YOU CAN PROGRAM NICE KEYPAD DIAL SOUNDS.ALSO UNIQUE RINGTONE FROM 80'S DISCO IS MY CHOICE.
Terrible in every way a phone can be.

Quite possibly the worst phone I've ever used. Speaker quality is poor, the side buttons activate at the touch of a hat, and the exposed camera lens quickly gets scratched up and useless. The button problem makes my phone CONSTANTLY go into voice activation mode in the pocket, just from the slight pressure of moving around. This is so bad that mimicking it is now a running gag among friends and coworkers, and I have to leave the phone off at work or it pocket dials someone. After about 8 months in my pocket, my camera is quite literally unusable from the aforementioned problem.
If you get this phone with a contract, you are a moron. You can get it for about $30 with a pay-as-you-go plan, and then switch it onto an existing contract for free. This is how I got mine: my old phone broke, and I did not want to pay full price for a new phone with no upgrade available.
Just the right phone

I just purchased it yesterday and I hope will be able to use it for at least 4 years. It is easy to use. Same features as the LG phones I had before. I asked several people beforw purchasing this one and the few that had Samsung still use theirs for over 4 years. The LG phones only lasted 1 year.

good starter phone, but can't connect to computer or receive ring tones, pics, vids, etc via blue tooth. OK camera, durable for a phone this cheap(got mine for $[...] on eBay without contract)
