AT&T Service
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network (UMTS/HSDPA), and this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in international territories). The AT&T 3G network provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. The Samsung Jack has a vibrant 2.4-inch screen (320 x 240 pixels, 65K color depth) for excellent web browsing, video playback, and viewing of documents. In addition to offering a full QWERTY keyboard for easy and accurate messaging, the Jack also offers the new Turbo Scroll feature, which enables you to press lightly on the navigation pad to scroll through text on a page or press harder to scroll through entire pages. Adequate Windows Smartphone

The Samsung Jack is my first smartphone. Speakerphone quality is excellent, cell reception is about comparable to my previous Samsung Sync phone. Integration with MS Outlook on my PC is outstanding. Bluetooth works well, integrates with my car stereo nicely. Add-on of Google maps (see note) works well. Wi-Fi works well. Amazon's price of $.01 (plus a 6 month commitment to a data plan) was best I could find.
Battery life is problematic, I'm OK as long as I charge the phone daily. Marginal 3G reception at my house may be the issue with battery life, but I have not been able to turn 3G on and off successfully. Keyboard is usable but way too small for this touch typist to do anything but poke a finger at while looking at the keys. Maybe I'll get better at it? ATT sticks a bunch of trial, pretty worthless, programs on this phone.
Webbrowsing is, in my opinion, pretty lame because the size of the screen. Internet Explorer and 3rd party browsers work (see note) but they can't make the screen bigger. Phone has crashed (locked up and had to be restarted) about every other day. Camera's images are fuzzy even for a phone.
Note: Was able to unlock the phone (Google is your friend) with some instructions on the web so that 3rd party apps can be installed.
Not What I Expected

This phone has some amazing features, but for me, some of the most important features to have in a cell phone don't perform well.
When I tried this phone, I used it in an area that has always gotten great coverage with my other phones; I've used a Nokia 6682 and a Motorola Q, and I've always had full signal strength. but with the Jack, my signal strength was very weak. In my living-room, I only had half the strength I usually did, and when I went downstairs, it dropped to almost zero.
The battery didn't seem to last very long either; I drained the battery within a few hours of charging, just by surfing the Internet and setting up an email account.
Several people that I've talked to have had problems removing the Jack's battery. The phone seems a bit slippery and hard to grasp when taking the battery out. I found that the easiest way to do it is to apply pressure to the battery lid and slide it out, away from the phone. (I watched three people try to slide their nail in between the phone and the lid to pop it off that way, and it worked ... after about fifteen minutes).
Call quality was fair. When I placed a call, the person that I called sounded clear; there were no problems. a few people said that my voice tended to fade in and out a bit, but I'm assuming it was because of the poor reception I had.
On the plus side, this phone is fast and extremely responsive. My Q tends to lag a lot when opening applications, but the Jack doesn't. I'm constantly removing the Q's battery to recover it from a crash, but so far, the Jack hasn't crashed once.
Disappointed. Samsung.com rejected review.

Apparently my not so enthusiastic review was not approved by Samsung thereby omitted from their Samsung Jack product review.
Let me first say that this is the first smartphone I own.
Out of the box, Windows 6.1 required a little bit of navigating but was not difficult to use. The first thing I noticed was that not only was the connection port proprietary but that there was only ONE port. With use, the connection will soon be loose thereby affecting your power charging / syncing / headset abilities. I really have to question Samsung's practicality knowledge placing the connection on the side.
I have small fingers and so the keys do not bother me much but I imagine those with average to larger fingers may find it difficult to use. The phone itself is compact, light, and feels relatively solid. The back cover is very slick, making removing it to access the battery / SIM / microSD slot difficult. Samsung designed the phone so that in order to access the microsd, you have to remove the battery. Another "what were they thinking?!" moment.
Battery life with moderate use was about 13-14hrs. That includes texting / web browsing / emailing / programs approximately 5min per hour.
Finally, the most aggravating point. This phone is LOCKED DOWN. It is nearly impossible to change the ring tone file size limit (there is not a hack for it). You cannot use your own sound file as your text alert / etc. Shortcuts cannot be rearranged.
Several programs that I need to use for work turned out to be incompatible. Those who purchase this item for work purposes may want to make sure that their applications will in fact work with this phone.
Bottom line: Despite my preference for Samsung products, when time comes for a new smartphone, I most probably will not be coming to Samsung.
I would caution those who look at the reviews on the Samsung.com website. Currently there are only 5 review on the Samsung Jack and they are all ravishing. My not-so-glowing review was not accepted.

having owned both the blackjack 2 and the epix, some observations:
-product is much smaller and fits much better in your hand, although not textured and thus slipperier than bj2
-chargers, usb sync cables all work from previous samsung smartphone models
-keyboard works fine
-pictures don't convey the chrome band which is quite prominent
-SIM card and microSD card slots are in battery compartment
-battery door has a recess to make it easier to open
Good phone overall.

This is a really good phone. I picked this phone out because I didn't want a touch screen. The price amazon gives: "You Save: $499.98 (100%)" That is a lie. The day this phone came out I went to my local AT&T store where I bought it for $217 or so and got a $100 rebate card. So don't be mistaken your saving $500 with Amazon.
Anyway, I love this phone. I bought a hard case for it & it left some scratches around the screen but it doesn't effect the viewing of the screen. I'm pretty good with phones and it took me about a day and a half to figure this one out. Lots of great features. The Microsoft Office feature though isn't so great in my opinion. You can't create a document on the phone. You have to make it on your computer then download it to your phone. Once it is on your phone you can't even edit it. My speaker for the speaker phone has become quieter over time. I have a 4 gig memory SD card where I have all my music and pictures I want. I am limited on the ringtones I can have though because you have to have them in Sounds on the phone itself in order for them to work as ringtones. The letters on the keypad haven't worn off with my excessive texting which is what really surprised me. I have dropped this phone many many times, haven't broke the screen yet. just a few small scuffs at the top on the edges. But I would recommend a case because if I didn't have mine on a couple times I would have broken something major on this phone.
The NUMBER 1 thing I LOVE about this phone is the texting feature. Its like Instant messaging where you have one full screen of just that one persons texts. makes it for faster texting and to know what your talking about. It is really nice. I'd recommend getting the phone just for its texting feature. it is AWESOME!
the reason i gave it 4 stars is sometimes it completely locks up on me and i have to take the battery out to restart it. Another thing that I don't like about this phone is the games. Solitaire is the only game I play on this phone. and I can't find very many games that can go on this phone. Also sometimes on the battery bar on the screen shows full then it drops down two or maybe even dead sometimes all of a sudden. Also, you have to buy a car charger from At&t because I was going cheap and bought a car charger from walmart & it messed up my battery where it wouldn't stay charged very long. but once i bought the at&t car charger it has been working perfectly!

This is my second time with Samsung and this phone is awesome in most aspects, but like everything is not perfect.
Pros:
-Very classy
-Thanks for Windows Mobile the navigation is really good
-Good response no lag
-Microsoft Office Mobile Thumbs up
-Good Resolution Screen
-Wi-Fi and Qwerty
-Price
Cons:
-Bad design for the On/Off Button and why we have to "zoom" with the volume buttons?
-Battery Life can be better but you know wi-fi has its price
-That odd exclusive samsung multijack for the earphones
One point not good for me is that I can't sync it to my laptop, because of the internet security from the company, but this is not phone's fault.
In fact this is a very good product for the price, you can find better gadgets but you have to pay more, the main point for this is WM 6.1 and not other OS.

I have always been a fan of Samsung phones, getting a Blackjack, Blackjack 2 and now the Jack.
What I like:
1) The size is perfect--not too small, fits in the palm of your hand, without being too bulky
2) QWERTY keyboard -- I'm not too keen on the new fangled touchscreens (esp on the iPhone) as I type a lot of text and emails and having a real keyboard is much more convenient than a touchscreen
3) windows environment -- familiar OS, so there's no learning curve
What I don't like:
1) batter life- Most smartphones probably have this issue, so not really a phone specific complaint
2) apps (lack of)- if you want a lot of phone apps, this isn't the phone for you
Verdict:
If you are looking for a functional smartphone that has email, web browsing and all the basics, then I highly recommend this phone. But if you are looking for a cool phone with all the latest apps and technology, then this one isn't the model for you

I upgraded from the Black Jack to this and it's a good little phone, very light weight and fast internet browsing. Only issue I have with this phone is the Battery drains very fast. Not a useful cell phone if you're planning on doing a lot of texing and web browsing.

This is my first smart phone and little bit disappointed with the phone.
Bad:
1. Suddenly drops the connection (wifi and bluetooth).
2. Size, ugly shape.
3. Poor Battery Life
Good:
1. Windows Mobile OS - specially office.
2. Install apps easily.
3. Samsung Brand, good support.
4. 3.2 MP camera, excellent voice quality.
Over all, i don't think it is really worth to pay more than $200. If you get a free phone then you can use it, if not i won't suggest to buy it.
