Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System

The DROID RAZR runs the Android 4.0.4 operating system (dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich), which adds powerful new ways of communicating and sharing while improving on the best Android features: easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, and more.

The updated Ice Cream Sandwich interface features an onscreen navigation bar that replaces the hardware buttons for Back, Home, and Menu found with older Android-powered phones. And with Google+ integration, you can video chat with groups of up to 9 friends as well as easily upload and share photos and videos. Other features include:

Face Unlock

You can now unlock your phone with just your face using the Face Unlock option. It takes advantage of the front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then to recognize it again when unlocking the device. Just hold your phone in front of your face to unlock (or use a backup PIN).

And the lock screen now lets you do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, you can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages. When listening to music, you can even manage music tracks and see album art.

Home Screen Folders

Quickly access related apps right from the home screen by organizing apps and shortcuts into folders--just drag one app onto another to create a folder.

Multitasking

Multitasking is even easier and more visual in Android 4.0.4. The Recent Apps button lets you jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. The list pops up to show thumbnail images of apps used recently--tapping a thumbnail switches to the app.

Voice Input

The new voice engine in Android 4.0.4 lets you dictate the text you want, for as long as you want, using the language you want. You can speak continuously for a prolonged time, even pausing for intervals if needed, and dictate punctuation to create correct sentences. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, you can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.

Android 4.0.4 Features
  • Global roaming in 220 countries
  • Direct access from the lock screen to phone, camera, and text
  • New home screen layout with enhanced launch bar
  • Improved voice input: hold down the search key to dictate emails and text or navigate to an address
  • Face unlock: the device uses the front-facing camera to automatically recognize you when you attempt to unlock
  • Data usage: the new usage center allows you to monitor how much data is consumed each month
  • Android Market for browsing and downloading thousands of free and paid apps
  • Pre-loaded Android apps: Browser, Calculator, Calendar (Google or Corporate), Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, News & Weather, Phone, Settings, Video Player, Voice Dialer, Voice Search, YouTube
  • Google applications: Gmail, Google Search, Google Voice Search, Google Latitude, Google Maps, Google Places, Google Talk
  • Google Maps Navigation with spoken turn-by-turn directions showing real-time traffic and 360° views of the destination

I love the DROID RAZR! September 7, 2012

Reviewer:  Laura B.

I have owned my DROID RAZR for a few months now and just added a line with another DROID RAZR for my mom.
I order from Amazon Wireless, whcih hands down has the best price on phones.

I had to return the fist phone I got from them,I thought something was wrong with the phone, turns out it was my SIM card that Verizon gave me that had the issues.

Amazon had excellent service and was great with assisting me in exchanging the phone.

GREAT CAMERA
GREAT SOUND/MUSIC PLAYER
GREAT DISPLAY
BATTERY LIFE IS PRETTY GOOD
SLEEK LOOKING PHONE
TAKES GOOD VIDEOS
SUPER FAST
I haven't had any issues,I love everything about the RAZR.
I came from the Iphone 4s and the DROID RAZR is hands down better.(I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW DROID RAZR HD THAT IS BEING RELEASED IN THE FALL.)

I know some people have complained about the phone getting hot I personally only had that happen once when I upgraded the android version.

ALSO IF YOU BUY FROM AMAZON WIRELESS PLEASE NOTE THE DROID RAZR SAYS IT IS RUNNING THE ANDROID 4.0.4, IT IS NOT IT IS STILL RUNNING 2.3.6.
YOU WILL NEED TO DO A SYSTEM UPDATE. WHICH IS NOT HARD TO DO.

Very Nice Phone June 26, 2012

Reviewer:  Stacey L. Toth "selene1212"  (Pennsylvania USA) -

I've had this phone for about 2 weeks now and its my first true smart phone. I find it amazing. My only issues so far is that the battery doesn't last very long if you are using various apps on it and sometimes the phone gets really hot.

Buyer BEWARE!! November 25, 2012

Reviewer:  madison360

There is a design flaw with this phone. My husband had Motorola Droid X2...dropped it probably a dozen times, no problem. I have had this phone for TWO MONTHS, I was holding it in my hand talking to a coworker when I heard a "click." I looked down and the glass was cracked from the right hand side of the of the Motorola symbol at the top of the screen all the way down to the left corner. You cannot feel the crack if you rub your finger across the screen and can only see it if you are holding it at an angle in the light. I did not drop the phone, the phone is made of kevlar, so I feel confident that my super powers didn't kick in allowing me to squeeze the phone to the breaking point. PLUS, it is supposed to have super strong Corning Gorilla Glass EXCEPT for the fact that there is something wrong with the glass.

There is a website dedicated to this problem: motorazrcracked.com. I found that site as well as threads on the Verizon website and Motorola websites with HUNDREDS of posts from Motorola Droid RAZR owners who have had similar experiences. I was forced to do this research after contacting Verizon and being told by their customer service rep that according to the "technician" that she spoke to, that this is NOT a known issue with this phone. She then told me that she had texted the number for Motorola and that I should call them. I made the point with her that I am Verizon's customer and Verizon is Motorola's customer. The best way to handle this from a customer service perspective would be to replace my defective phone and then Verizon take the issue to Motorola. My plea fell upon deaf ears.

I then called Motorola, as suggested. I spoke to someone with such a thick accent, I could barely understand her. No matter how much information I gave her about the issue that I have found on the internet, she kept giving me the same scripted answer: Send the phone to them, they would have it for approximately two weeks, if the issue was determined to be "physical damage" and not a production issue, it would cost me $150 to have the phone repaired. By the way, my research has uncovered that Motorola policy is such that if a phone is returned with a cracked screen, it is automatically deemed to be "physical damage" and the customer is assessed the $150 fee. Lose/lose situation.

After calling Verizon back and explaining what had happened to my phone to a customer service supervisor as well as giving her the addresses for all of the web pages I found regarding this issue, she admitted that this IS a known issue and agreed to replace my phone. When I got the replacement, it is a factory certified "LIKE NEW" phone (refurbished). In the meantime, if Verizon determines that the phone I have returned to them was damaged by me, I could be charged $299 for the replacement.

Poor construction October 30, 2012

Reviewer:  toby

It was a great phone while it lasted. I dropped it all of a foot on to a metal chair leg glass first and the LCD cracked. 230 to fix. Since it is marketed as a super strong phone, I expected more. Had it for 1 year. No would replace of course.
