The 4G LTE Motorola Atrix HD combines the fast speed of a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with the thin, but strong, DuPont™ KEVLAR® fiber body. It has a large 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost display that gives you clear, sharp, and crisp images like you would expect to see on a tablet or HD TV. The Atrix runs on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system and features SMARTACTIONS, a fully integrated, free app that intelligently automates everyday tasks and suggests ways to personalize your smartphone. Based on selections that you make, SMARTACTIONS will optimize your phone’s performance and extend your battery life. The free SMARTACTIONS app intelligently automates everyday tasks and suggests ways to personalize your phone to make life easier. You can choose to accept the suggestion, which is based upon the time, place or situation. For example, if you are driving, SMARTACTIONS will suggest Drive Smart, which if selected, would set the phone to automatically launch the simple Vehicle View resulting in auto-reply to incoming calls and texts, enable hands-free conversations, and provide turn-by-turn navigation.
If you are in a meeting and don’t want to be disturbed, SMARTACTIONS will suggest the Meeting Rule, which is based on your calendar and location. Accept this, and your phone silences its ringer and activates auto-text reply, but also selectively lets pre-designated VIP callers through. The application can also improve battery life so it lasts longer between charges. For example, when your battery is running low, it can have your phone dim its display, turn off the GPS and disable background data.
The phone comes with a rear-facing 8 MP camera with 1080p video capture capabilities. In addition, the Atrix HD also has a 1.3 MP front-facing camera and 720HD camcorder for video chats. The 1080p HD video recorder films at 30 fps for smooth playback, just like the pros. With time-lapse video, you can even snap hi-res pics while shooting in HD. Connect an HDMI cable for “mirror mode,” to view your phone images or watch Google Play Movies in HD on the big screen. Or, use Google Play Music to listen to your music library and even songs on iTunes.

Homerun for the Atrix HD

I picked my white one today! I have been debating the HTC OneX and GS3 for quite some time. This phone appeared to combine the best of both worlds for me and it was lighter on my pocketbook.
Pros
1. It has great build quality. Not as sexy as the OneX but much better than the GS3.
2. It has the same S4 processor.
3. A beautiful screen. GS3 owners should be jealous. For me it's hard to tell the difference with the HTC OneX.
4. Expandable memory. I have a 32GB card in it now.
5. Benchmarks are on par if not higher than some on the OneX and GS3
6. A dedicated HDMI out port.
7. I also have to agree with Jerry about the nearly pure ICS experience. The few UI tweaks are the best I have seen so far.
8. For a limited time at&t gives you a Motorola Car Dock for free. It's built specifically for this phone and it's worth at least $40.
9. I really like the Circles app and the information it provides.
10. The rear speaker is the best I have heard on any phone period! It's a beast.
11. There is a setting for the video camera that is for concerts. I'm looking forward to trying this out. I see a lot of live music and every Android phone I have used the audio is so distorted I can't watch the video. I'm looking forward to seeing how this performs. I'll try it out this weekend.
12. Speaking of sound, calls sound great.
13. I really enjoy swiping up on some of the apps to get a quick look at calls, messages, calendar, etc..
Cons
1. Sealed battery like the OneX. I was aware and already keep chargers in the car, at home and at work.
2. It gets quite hot if you are doing a lot of work.
3. It's easy to cover the camera with your finger.
4. The camera isn't up to par with the HTC OneX, GS3, or iPhone4s.
5. There is wasted real estate around the bezel. A larger screen or smaller form factor could have been used. I'm a big guy at 6'2 so it fits me perfectly.
I'll update more if I find anything else I like or dislike.

Atrix HD: Great Specs! Low Price!

Got the Atrix HD and my initial thoughts are that its a winner.
HW is on par with the OneX and G3, with a price point of $49. Its not perfect, but for that kinda dough its a steal.
Pros:
1. Great display. Very crisp.
2. HDMI out. Connect this to a TV and the picture quality is awesome.
3. Despite some bloatware (see below), the UI is simple and clean. Close to stock android.
4. Circle Widget is cool. Best feature is the data usage monitor.
5. HW specs are awesome for this price point!!
6. Responsiveness. I carry this phone for my runs, using Endomondo to track time/speed/distance and listen to music. Works great.
7. Use this phone for navigation in the car and streaming audio. Works great.
8. Car Dock is nice along with the Drive Smart app.
9. Download speeds are very very fast (LTE).
9. Did I mention the price?
Cons:
1. Bloatware. Could do without the ATT apps. Not a big deal, just need to "disable" them and they dont show up in the tray.
2. Battery a bit small, but getting thru a full day usage. Expect that with this size display and LTE, battery will be eaten up a bit more quickly. (The display eats up battery, so be careful about keeping display on too long when not using.)
3. A bit large, but am getting use to it. This would be the max size I would go though.
4. Camera is OK. That being said, i don't buy the phone for the camera.
5. 1G RAM. Not too much of con. For $49, i don't expect all high-end HW. So far, 1GB is handling my needs.
Will provide updates as I use it more.

Phone is great. Ton of good Android 4 features customized for Atrix.
Cons:
-- Battery live is not so great even while using Smart Action app that turns different functions On or Off based profile or location.
-- Camera quality is not up to current standards for 8mp. Pictures are not sharp and the only way to improve them is to use custom filters or different exposure but even that doesn't help much.
Pros:
-- GPS is the best i've seen in smart phones in the last few years. So far i was using it non-stop few hours a day for the last 5 days while driving and it hasn't lost signal or location even once.
-- Call quality including speaker phone is very good and clear.

Let me tell you this upfront: This phone is not the best smartphone available on the market. Many of the reviews on Cnet, Engadget, etc compare the Atrix HD to the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III, which is an unfair comparison since those are 3-4 times the price. If you want the latest and greatest look at the One X and Galaxy S III. BUT if you don't want to drop $150-$200 on a new phone, you should at least consider the Atrix HD.
PROS: good call quality, fast responsive interface, excellent price, Android 4.0 OS, durable construction, pretty HD screen
CONS: non-removable battery, camera not so good in low light(even with flash on), 8GB of internal storage is a little low, uh...it's not free
I get a good discount on AT&T for being an LSU student, so I am sort of locked into AT&T. After scoping out the market at looking and my measly student budget, I decided that I would not pay more than $50 for a new phone. There are a few good AT&T smart phones out there for $50 or less such as the Nokia Lumia 900, Motorola Atrix HD, and LG Nitro HD which was free (at Best Buy's website with 2-year contract). The lowest price I found for the Lumia 900 was $19.99 and the Atrix HD was $49.99. I feel like all 3 of these phones are great for the money. Another phone that I liked for $49.99 was the Sony Xperia Ion, mostly because I love the look of it, but after doing further research I decided that the Sony was style over substance. Check the specs. It's basically the old LG Nitro HD with a better camera and more internal storage. But the LG is free.
The Lumia 900 looked really nice and has positive reviews all over the web, but I really like all the apps on the Android market, and I'm not sure I'm ready to try Windows on a phone yet. The LG Nitro HD is possibly the best free smartphone on the market for AT&T. It has similar features to popular Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket except with a nice HD screen and less internal storage. And it's free. However, I did not choose the Nitro because I felt an extra $50 was worth it to get a phone with much better hardware and a better operating system.
The Motorola Atrix HD is fast. I mean really fast. The internet blazes on the LTE network, and the software rarely ever lags. The touchscreen is also very responsive. It has a Snapdragon S4 processor - the same one that's in the Samsung Galaxy S III. It also has the same Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system as the Galaxy S III (compared to the old Android 2.3 Gingerbread that is on the Nitro HD). Motorola was recently acquired by Google, and so far they've been very good about updating their phones with the latest versions of Android. I have confidence that the Atrix HD will see updates to newer versions of Android (such as 4.1 Jellybean) in the future. I don't have the same confidence in LG, especially since the Nitro HD uses an older chip set. With the latest hardware and durable construction - Kevlar back and Gorilla glass front - I feel like this phone will last me 2 years without a problem.

Good...Could be Better

I replaced an Atrix (gen 1) with the Atrix HD. I was looking for two things, just a bit better video display, and was interested in the HD video capability. The video display is good and meets my expectations, although the "auto" brightness I find too bright most of the time. The first edition Atrix did a better job of managing brightness.
HD Video - while the camera and video can be good, all of the video I have taken so far has periodic pauses in it. I even cut the video down from HD video to DVD and see the same results. This makes the camera a poor choice if video is what you want. I will end up using my iPhone 4S, which does a fantastic job in the video area.
Battery life is about the same as the original Atrix. I was hoping for some improvement.
Overall, I like this phone and will continue to use it. Phone quality is excellent. The jump, in my opinion, from the original Atrix is not enough to justify a change. But if you aren't using an Atrix right now, I would highly recommend this phone.
4 stars instead of 5 because the video does not perform as it should.
