AT&T Mobile Broadband Service
This netbook features integrated high-speed 3G cellular connectivity via AT&T's mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network (UMTS/HSDPA), which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps.
Send and receive email, browse the Internet or access your corporate intranet on the AT&T 3G wireless network. And with the netbook's integrated Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g), you'll be able to connect seamlessly to Wi-Fi networks at home, at your business, in airports and more. AT&T is offering two pricing options for two-year contracts:
Processor
The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).
Storage & Memory
This version of the HP Mini comes with an 80 GB hard disk drive (4200 RPM), which is small when compared to full-sized notebooks but is plentiful for the tasks a netbook is designed for--surfing the web and storing a decent sized digital media library. This netbook also comes with 1 GB of of system RAM, which is the maximum capacity for this device.
Screen, Video & Audio
The 10.1-inch HP BrightView anti-reflective display delivers an expansive viewing area compared to other mobile devices, and it features flush glass, an LED backlight, and a 1024 x 576-pixel resolution. HP's BrightView technology improves the contrast and clarity of your notebook display so colors are brighter and images are more lifelike. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 128 MB of graphics memory shared with the system memory. This netbook also includes two built-in stereo speakers and an integrated audio chip that's compatible with HD Audio.
Keyboard & Trackpad
The 82-key, near-full-size (92 percent) keyboard is more comfortable for most than the thumb keys on smartphones and PDAs. The electrostatic touchpad has an on/off button and dedicated scroll up/down pad.
DVD/CD Drive
Because of its size, the HP Mini does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports, enabling you to create your music mixes, burn movies to DVD, and more.
Connectivity
This HP Mini notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks, as well as an Ethernet jack for plugging into a wired network. To increase your storage capabilities, you can access optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. Here's the full list of connectivity options:
Operating System & Software
The HP Mini is pre-installed with Windows XP, and includes the following software: Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 (including 60 days complimentary live update), Microsoft Works, Skype, MSN Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger

Wrong information

You do not need to sign up for ATT's sevice plan in order to purchase this netbook. This is just wrong information, plain and simple. If you want to take advantage of ATT's high speed mobile service, you can purchase it separately and this netbook can then work at the higher speed. Otherwise, you're just limited to wired (10/100) and wireless (54g) broadband and WI-FI service.
You need service plan for the discount pricing...but you can purchase without a plan and still have wireless connectivity...

I live in Atlanta where they have a pilot program for actually selling the laptop in AT&T stores...the sales associate will even tell you...it works without a plan because it has built in wireless card, but you need the plan if you want to connect to the AT&T wireless network.
This netbook is being sold on the AT&T network because it has a BUILT IN WIRELESS ACCESS POINT CARD. Meaning, if you are in a location that can connect to a wireless port (home, work, friends house) then you can access their internet for free because of the standard built in wireless card that comes on practically everyones laptop! However, if you are in a Starbucks or someplace that requires you to pay...you can connect to the AT&T access point and use the MB's on the plan you have chosen. It's like having a back up plan when free isn't available!
It's like this...have you seen those people using their laptop with those cards sticking out on the side...those are their wireless access point cards...all cell phone companies sell them...and they usually start at over $200 to $300, but they give you a deal if you sign a 2 year service contract. Well if you get this laptop, yours will come built inside and your deal is the laptop at a really discounted price!
No service plan required

I walked through the HP Mini 1150NR purchasing process and no service plan was required. However, when I tried the HP Mini 1151NR with Verizon, I was asked to select a Verizon service plan at the first step. Without a contractual agreement for the service plan during the purchasing process, I don't see how AT&T can impose anything on me.
Amazon might have made a mistake by not requiring a service plan. If so, they could either apologize and cancel your order or honor your order to express their apology. Either way, no need to worry about paying for something you don't want. If this is not assuring, read their return policy.

I purchased this netbook from Amazon for mostly internet use and also as a backup for more feature rich laptop. This netbook has decent size keyboard and LED backlit 10.1 inch screen which is bright and crisp. It came with 80GB ZIF 1.8inch Hard drive-sufficient enough for me. Access time is fast and I run MS office,MS Pictureit, Foxit PDF reader and various other softwares simultaneously without any hitch or slow down. This net book comes with HD backup utility and you will have to make your own backup on a SDHC or a DVD using external drive. A restoration or a copy of the original XP-SP3 DVD would have been nicer if HP packaged it along with the netbook. I guess this is a money saver approach from HP. I have used this product for about 2 mos. and I am happy with the build quality and specially the network card that came built in. Connecting at various hotspots works seamlessly. I plan to replace the ZIF HD with a Solid State HD in near future which should give me little bit more runtime from the battery which is not too bad now(about 2 hrs.of normal use). At $200.00, It is great value and I could not be happier.
Love this!

It does everything it says it will do - Sorry some people can't read the product description. Yes, you do need to have service (just like a cell phone)since it runs on "cell phone service".

In order to get this price, you need to sign up for ATT's 3G internet service contract. They're not really telling you that in a clear, up-front way. So, beware!
This is a great MPC at that price to date.
